Metrocentre, Gateshead
Metrocentre is considered to be the leading shopping centre in the UK in terms of tenant mix with the top 20 UK retailers blending together with major departments stores, specialist niche retailers, leisure operators and a range of restaurants/cafes/bars and extensive transport links.
Over recent years, Capital Shopping Centres (CSC), have been working on a modernisation programme to ensure that the centre keeps pace with the latest trends and meets the aspirations of today’s customers. Examples include the recent red mall remodelling, a public transport interchange, retiling and redecoration.
Investment continues to be made to keep Metrocentre at the forefront of retailing. Construction has started to redevelop the centre’s leisure facilities which will be brought together in the yellow mall.
The works include:
- The relocation of the cinema to the yellow mall
- A new family entertainment centre, replacing the existing bowling facility
- Family orientated restaurants, casual dining and mall café
- Improved access to the yellow car park
- New escalators and feature lift between mall levels, redecoration and re-tiling
- New zinc clad exterior
- A children’s play area
